Karl-Philipp Schlichting - Nanoporous Graphene Membranes
Scalable graphene membrane fabrication for filtration and purification
Membranes are applied to achieve separation in industries as wide-ranging as drinking water supply, medical technologies, sports utility wear, and petrochemistry. Membranes promise more energy efficiency separation; however, commercial membrane technologies are often inefficient in fluid transport making their application too costly.
To solve the problem of inefficient fluid transport we develop nanoporous graphene membranes that transport fluids at the physical limit of efficiency and can therefore significantly improve existing separation processes and enable entirely new solutions.
The outstanding mechanical, thermal, and chemical stability of graphene in combination with our patent-pending technology to tune the pore size of our membranes promises improved solutions for water purification and gas separation, as well as medical applications and breathable, water-proof fabrics.
