David Stark - QCSEL

In this project, the Quantum Cascade Surface Emitting Laser (QCSEL) will be developed further. This device, by its small footprint, low dissipation, high-performance and low production cost in large volume, will be the mid-infrared equivalent of the vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs), which is now ubiquitous in consumer electronics. This new device will be an enabling technology for the new generation of low-cost, portable sensors for applications involving chemical sensing ranging from environmental monitoring, industrial process control to medical diagnostics.
