ETH Computer Sciences at the forefront
In the latest Times Higher Education subject ranking list "Computer Sciences", the Department of Computer Science at ETH Zurich ranks second.
In the latest Times Higher Education subject ranking for "Computer Sciences,” ETH Zurich ranks second. Thus confirming the leading position of ETH Computer Scientists worldwide. One year ago, they were in fourth place, two years ago in first. At the launch of this particular list two years ago, the THE subject ranking did not encompass all of the top universities, so previous results are not comparable with the current one.
ETH President Lino Guzzella is delighted with the top ranking of ETH computer scientists, he sees it as confirmation of the course taken by the university, "ETH Zurich's strategic decision to strongly promote data science is bearing fruit. The fact that the number of students at the Department of Computer Science has recently increased also fits into this picture. Many of the large IT companies such as Google, Disney, and Apple have also decided to set up their own research and development activities in Zurich because of ETH Zurich. The most recent example is Microsoft, where a new laboratory for "external page Mixed Reality and Artificial Intelligence" is being established.
In addition, many spin-off companies are emerging from ETH whose business models are tailored to digital transformation, such as GetYourGuide, Scandit or Beekeper. "Zurich is Switzerland's digital centre, ETH Zurich and top research and education in the field of information technology are driving this development," emphasises Lino Guzzella.
World-class engineers too
ETH Zurich also made it into the top ten in the THE Engineering and Technical Sciences ranking. As in the previous year, the university is in ninth place. In the most recent overall ranking for 2018/19, ETH Zurich ranks eleventh.
