The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has awarded SNSF Starting Grants to promising scientific talents to support the beginning of their careers. This year, 67 scientists throughout Switzerland received this award. Of these, 13 researchers are expected to start their projects at ETH Zurich from next year, 11 of whom are women. Around 22 million Swiss francs will flow to ETH Zurich.
The SNSF Starting Grants are a Swiss transitional measure awarded on behalf of the federal government because researchers at Swiss universities are currently not eligible for Starting Grants of the European Research Council (ERC). The financial support – a maximum of 1.8 million Swiss francs per project over a period of five years – enables the recipients to manage the project and their own research team.
