ETH spin-off CLIMADA Technologies scooped first prize in the Finance & Insurance category at the Venture Awards held yesterday evening, 17 June 2024. The company, which grew out of the Professorship for Weather and Climate Risks (D-USYS), offers an event-based simulation platform for the socio-economic impact of weather and climate events.
external page CLIMADA uses mathematical models to compile risk assessments. These enable companies, the authorities and other decision-makers to prepare better for rising weather and climate risks.
As the models are calculated globally for cyclones, heat waves and droughts, floods and forest fires, their impact can be calculated not only historically but also probabilistically – that is, for weather extremes that have not yet actually occurred but are physically plausible. This way the impact of events can be assessed extremely precisely.
