ETH Week 2023: Circular Realities

In recent years, the concept of a circular economy has gained increasing attention as a potential solution to the environmental challenges caused by the linear ¡°take-make-dispose¡± model of production and consumption. The circular economy aims to redefine the traditional economic system by decoupling economic growth from the consumption of finite resources and minimizing waste through a closed-loop system of production and consumption.

This new economic model is based on the principles of designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. The challenge lies in shifting from centuries-old linear practices to closed-loop systems, overcoming barriers such as technological limitations, cultural norms, and policy frameworks. This year's ETH Week topic is Circular Realities. It aims to inspire the students to collectively design and develop circular realities of tomorrow by exploring the challenges, opportunities, and innovative solutions for transitioning to a circular economy.
