ETH among the 17 best teaching institutions
ETH Zurich was among the 17 finalists in the Global Teaching Excellence Award competition. Over 300 universities from all over the world applied for the award, which was presented for the second time this year.
Rector Sarah Springman and her staff member Judith Zimmermann were awarded a finalist's certificate and trophy in Edinburgh on 18 July. "This distinction shows that ETH Zurich is also one of the best addresses for university teaching worldwide," says Springman. "Our thanks go to all the lecturers, and also to all the staff in the Rectorate and in the departments, who are doing an outstanding job." Reaching this year's final is an incentive to improve teaching even more at ETH Zurich.
The Global Teaching Excellence Award is presented by Advance HE, a merger of the Equality Challenge Unit, the Higher Education Academy and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education. Peer reviewers from all over the world evaluated more than 300 entries from universities on all five continents and selected the 17 finalists. Excellence in the leadership of teaching and learning, excellence in teaching and excellence in student support were assessed. A 14-member jury selected the winning university from the finalists. This year’s award went to McMaster University from Canada.
