Hollywood honours Markus Gross

Great honour for Markus Gross. The Vice President of Research at The Walt Disney Studios and Director of DisneyResearch|Studios in Zurich and Professor of Computer Graphics at ETH Zurich has been? invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

As announced on its web site on 30 June, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited Markus Gross to join the organisation. The visionary Swiss computer scientist is one of 819 invitees, including 15 winners of an Oscar, and five recipients of Scientific and Technical Awards. Markus Gross has accepted to join the Academy as a “Member-at-Large”. As Members-at-Large, he will now have Oscars voting privileges. The invitation recognizes Markus Gross’s leadership of DisneyResearch|Studios, the most impactful research organization in the film business. It is also based on his scientific and technical contributions that led to leading creative tools for the crafts involved in the creation of the theatrical motion picture experience.

Markus Gross is a two-time recipient of the Technical Achievement Award of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: He was awarded the prestigious “Tech Oscar” in 2013 and again in 2019.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is Hollywood’s professional honorary organization with the goal of advancing the arts and sciences of motion pictures. It is known for its annual Academy Awards, popularly known as "The Oscars".
