ETH Zurich advocates responsible animal research and opposes bans

Last year, ETH Zurich strengthened its commitment to more animal-friendly research methods, reducing the number of animal experiments by 7.6 percent. It is committed to the principle of minimising the burden on animals in research. However, ETH is fundamentally opposed to a complete ban on animal experiments.

New assembly of delegates elected for PUBLICA

On 6 November 2024, the insured persons of PUBLICA elected a new assembly of delegates, as they do every four years. Seven members of ETH Zurich belong to the assembly during the new term of office.

Using CRISPR to decipher whether gene variants lead to cancer

Researchers at ETH Zurich have combined two gene editing methods. This enables them to quickly investigate the significance of many genetic mutations involved in the development and treatment of cancer.

Between crystals, cats and quantum

ETH Professor Yiwen Chu is investigating how to apply quantum states to ever larger objects. This should help to gain new insights into physics and develop more efficient technologies. She has now been awarded the ETH Zurich Latsis Prize for her outstanding research.
