Travel insurance
ETH Zurich has two travel insurances (a business travel insurance for employees and a travel insurance for students).
Please refer to the leaflet protected page travel insurance.
Travel registration
Travel registration is not a requirement for insurance coverage. However, we recommend to register trips to countries with increased risks via the travel app GardaWorld Travel Security. This way, the travel insurance company is pre-informed that ETH relatives are in certain risk countries / regions and is thus better prepared for an emergency and can possibly react / evacuate more quickly. You will also receive push notifications of any increased risks (via the GardaWorld app). You can find instructions on how to register your trip protected page here. The CrisisGPSmessenger app is used, among other things, to be able to communicate the GPS location in case of emergency. You can find the instructions for registering on the CrisisGPSmessenger app protected page here.
ETH Zurich has a comprehensive business travel insurance which fully covers the financial consequences of accident and illness for staff (including visiting lecturers, but excluding students and guests) while engaged on business abroad.
A business trip is a trip abroad which is commissioned and approved by the employer. Professors are also insured for their sabbatical.
