Tips and Tricks: Getting around by bike
After tips for getting where you need to go by bus, tram and train a fortnight ago, here are tips on how to get from A to B at ETH by bike. Even in the cold season of the year.
One thing is for sure: Yes, it became noticeably colder last week. And maybe you feel the same way, preferring to get on your bike in spring-like temperatures. But as always when you are outdoors, the same applies to cycling: There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.
So if you like to get around by bike but don't have one in Zurich, ETH offers several bike-sharing options:
PubliBike
external page PubliBike is one popular choice. Members of the ETH community pay a reduced annual membership fee of CHF 70 for the business bike subscription, which includes unlimited bike rides of up to 30 minutes. Bikes and e-bikes are available at PubliBike stations marked with concrete pillars. You can find stations directly at Download ETH Zentrum (PDF, 189 KB) and on Download H?nggerberg campus (PDF, 137 KB). Trips longer than 30 minutes have to be paid for. After this point, your credit card will be automatically charged five cents per minute for use of the city bike and ten cents for use of e-bikes. protected page You can find more information here (password required, information in German)
Urban Connect bikes
ETH runs a fleet of twenty Urban Connect e-bikes which are available around the clock every day for all students and staff. As of 1 September 2021, these bikes are available at three locations: HCI (H?nggerberg), ONA and OCT (Oerlikon). To make use of the fleet, you'll need to download an app and login with your username ETH email address. Once you add credit to your account, you're free to start riding. Team e-bike
If you and your team would prefer to have your own fleet of e-bikes, then the team e-?bike service might be for you. These bikes are part of the ETH vehicle fleet and are acquired by the Services department. Various models are available, including cargo bikes. The team bike offer is intended for business use only. The usage fee is CHF 60 per month. The ETH traffic management team takes care of the maintenance and repairs. You and your team are responsible for operating the bikes safely and protecting them against theft. protected page Further information.
