Should there be general rules for meetings at ETH?
Every day we spend working time in meetings, conferences and discussions. A bad meeting not only costs time, but also nerves and motivation. Could general rules at ETH help to optimise meetings and make them more productive?

Meetings often determine our everyday working life – also at ETH. They are important for the exchange of information, for brainstorming or for the implementation of projects. Nevertheless, every one of us has probably had a bad experience with them. But how can we make meetings as efficient, productive and motivating as possible for all participants?
There are already companies that limit the duration of meetings to a maximum of 45 minutes. Should such a rule also apply at ETH? Should it be obligatory to send out an agenda for every meeting in advance? Or do you think that, on the contrary, a meeting thrives on spontaneity and creativity, and that rules or time pressure would only restrict these?
We are looking for supporters and opponents of meeting rules at ETH for our For & Against column in by 10 August. We can help you put your piece together for publication. One “for” piece and one “against” piece will be published in the next edition of life magazine on 20 October.
We look forward to hearing your arguments!
