Ulrike Schlachter worked as coordinator of the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering from 1999 until her retirement. The position’s various tasks required a lot of flexibility. It was necessary to develop and establish basic principles and to set different priorities, depending on what was required in the changing times. She worked constructively with all ETH administrative departments and staff units, be it Finance & Controlling, Corporate Communications, the Legal Office, Human Resources, ETH Transfer or the Executive Board. At the same time, she got to know the different perspectives of many people working at ETH Zurich, their different cultures, legal foundations and ways of thinking.
Thanks to her degree from the HSG (University of St. Gallen) and her previous work as a certified public accountant in large and small companies, she was able to establish a broad professional network. At ETH, she was involved in the University Assembly as well as in a wide variety of projects such as gender equality and real estate financing.
