Employment within the framework of the doctorate

Normally, the doctorate at ETH Zurich is linked to employment as an assistant I (doctorate).

This employment must be linked to enrolment. If your candidate has not yet registered for the doctorate, please remind him/her to do so. All important information can be found in the section: Registration for the doctorat

Allow sufficient time until the start of the doctorate. Especially for candidates from third countries, the necessary formalities can take up to 8 weeks.

The departments ensure that the salary rates for doctoral students are applied fairly and transparently. Further information on the employment of doctoral students at ETH Zurich can be found on this Download information sheet (PDF, 831 KB).

Please contact HR Consulting if you supervise doctoral students who are employed at other institutions. Please also check in advance whether this is an external doctoral thesis.
