Data Science Internship with Teralytics in New York City
Teralytics is looking for an ETH Zurich intern to help build prototypes for their Smart City and retail applications, using large data sets to understand transportation, tourism, and urban planning problems.
You will be working with experienced researchers in New York City, and large data sets that are normally unavailable to the public. For this project, Teralytics is looking for hackers: people who can whip up quick solutions using the best languages and frameworks available.
The Company
Teralytics, a spin-off of ETH Zurich, is an analytics company focusing on large-scale (city- and country-level) location analytics. The team has diverse skills and experiences in areas such as applied mathematics, astrophysics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, distributed systems, and urban planning and hailing from five continents.
Requirements
- Well-versed in multiple programming languages such as Scala and Python.
- Solid foundation in computer science, such as algorithms and data structures.
- Competent Linux/Mac user and comfortable with the command line.
- Familiar with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
- Working knowledge of mathematics and statistics.
Bonus Points
- Familiarity with tools for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) such as PostGIS, QGIS, and OpenStreetMaps.
- Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and tools: You know the difference between clustering and classification, and “heteroskedasticity” doesn’t need a dictionary.
- Familiarity with a distributed computing framework such as Hadoop, Spark, or Storm.
- Familiarity with information visualization or interaction design. Capable of designing and implementing interfaces in Javascript, D3, Processing, etc.
- Familiarity with non-relational databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, Neo4j, etc.
- Advanced *NIX system administration skills: You know your way around the Linux stack.
Degree: PhD or MSc (ETH students only)
