Print service for students
The Print Service includes the provision, maintenance and operation of output devices for ETH organisational units.
The range of output devices includes laser printers and multi-function devices (MFDs).
The MFDs are fitted with a trigger station and authentication takes place directly on the device via your personal ETH card or your personal ETH account.
Together with billing via “prepay” and pull printing, we operate redundant solutions for computing labs, libraries or self-service stations in the institutes.
The multi-function devices can only be accessed via the print server piastud01.d.ethz.ch with the queue card-stud using the standard protocols and various computer platforms, and also the Web Upload portal for printing PDF files via the web.
In many computing labs for students, and also in some of the rooms for those about to take their diplomas, multi-function devices have been installed with a trigger station. The jobs need to be triggered here, after being sent beforehand to the pull printing queue card-stud.
These printers are generally set up in pools, with the objective of being able to trigger and print out a job at a device nearby if a printer is overloaded or faulty.
The customer can thus make use of a printer with fewer print jobs and/or print out the jobs at a more appropriate time.
Print jobs are kept in the print queue for a minimum of 24 hours before being deleted automatically. This means unnecessary printouts can be avoided, as ideally only those jobs that actually need printing are triggered.
This service is available to all ETH members.
Costs
To be able to print, your printer account must be initially topped up. You can do this using Print Service Prepay through the IT Shop (https://itshop.ethz.ch). Please note that funds paid into the IT Shop cannot be refunded.
A black/white page costs CHF 0.03, a coloured page costs CHF 0.08. Duplex printouts receive a discount of two centime. The prices are identical for A4 and A3.
