Laboratory equipment and activities

Objectives and idea

In this context, the Laboratory for Connected Mobility and Environmental Perception covers a wide range of topics in research and teaching. A large number of available sensor systems are installed in various domains such as vehicles, infrastructure and urban air traffic and evaluated in use. Influencing variables such as weather conditions and hardware reliability are examined and modeled. The recorded sensor data is fused on high-performance edge computers using precise calibration procedures and thus provides the basis for investigating high-performance algorithms, for example for data filtering and compression, object detection or self-localization and mapping (SLAM). In addition to on-site processing, hardware and software architectures are being investigated in order to communicate the data as efficiently as possible in real time between different players in the field or to a central cloud. Important questions arise here above all in the area of conflict between bandwidth and information density, as well as the latency of transferable data packets.
